About us

TIWESA is a registered cooperative entity under the Cooperative Act, Cap 490, Laws of Kenya, as of October 14, 2020. Its mandate is to unify diverse farming interest groups under a single framework for decisive, collective action toward building sustainable, climate- and socio-economically resilient networks. To fulfill this mission, TIWESA initiated the establishment of community-based organizations, first at the location level and now transitioning firmly to sub-locational structures.

TIWESA is committed to empowering members and communities by fostering sustainable agriculture, economic resilience, and resilient systems. Guided by our mission to optimize the benefits of their investments, we work to build a unified network that leverages collective knowledge and resources. As we expand our community-based organizations, we remain focused on creating lasting impact for current and future generations.

TIWESA serves as the umbrella organization for 16 Community-Based Organizations (CBOs), representing a collective membership of over 40,000 individuals. These members are organized into 725 Self-Help Groups (SHGs) spread across various regions within Tigania West Constituency. In its commitment to fostering inclusivity and equitable service delivery, TIWESA is actively working on the formation of Sub-locational CBOs to effectively manage large populations in high-density areas, ensuring that each member receives adequate support.

To join TIWESA, individuals must become members of a Self-Help Group (SHG). This membership is crucial to accessing the full range of benefits and services, including loan facilities. Members can apply for loans through their SHGs, with the lending process structured at the group level. This approach ensures a streamlined and collaborative system that promotes financial empowerment.

Tiwesa is governed by a Council, which includes a Board, Chairpersons of the CBOs, co-opted individuals with specialized expertise, and the CEO. This diverse leadership team reflects the geographical and cultural richness of Tigania West, ensuring TIWESA remains attuned to the needs and aspirations of its members.
